CAST Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup

A warm and funny ensemble comedy set in late 1970s California as Annette Bening enlists the help of two friends to raise her adolescent son.

In late 70s California a bohemian single mother decides the best way to raise her adolescent son is to enlist the help of two other women: Abbie, a free-spirited punk artist in her 30s, and Julie, a sassy teenage neighbour. A warm and funny ensemble comedy which looks at the various stages of womanhood during a time of huge social and cultural change. The cast are all terrific, but Annette Bening dominates the film with a standout performance.
(2016 USA 118 mins)

After a couple of smaller roles, this is Zumann’s breakout, and he is more than competent, but it’s the three women who dazzle. They are vibrant, vulnerable and engaging, none more so than Bening — oozing wit and wisdom, she is a delight to behold. An insightful and, on occasion, laugh-out-loud piece of filmmaking. Artfully shot and structured, while its warmth and wit shine as brightly as the Californian sun.  Will Lawrence, Empire

Nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay.
