A highly inventive horror-thriller set in a world where humans are hunted by blind monsters with super-hearing, a family must live in silence to survive.
In a post-apocalyptic future, a family must survive in a world where the slightest sound brings out deadly monsters which are blind but have super-sensitive hearing. With minimal dialogue – characters communicate by (subtitled) sign language, eye contact and whispers – this brilliant film is part sci-fi horror, party family drama. Pure, bold cinema which offers scares and horror as well as thoughtful insights into parental guilt and the power of silence. (2018 USA 90 mins)
The clever script functions as an inspired allegory for parenthood, and the fear of being unable to protect your family. As the title suggests, the film is perhaps the quietest horror movie ever made. As a result, there is minimal dialogue, and it’s strongly suggested that it’s only the family’s knowledge of sign language that has allowed them to survive for so long in the first place … This is a brilliantly directed and genuinely terrifying horror movie that deserves to be seen on the big screen with a large audience. Don’t miss it. Matthew Turner, iNews
