Shailene Woodley gives a powerful performance in this true-life love story about a couple who have to survive a hurricane at sea.
This is an emotional tale of love and survival, based on a true story, about Tami (Shailene Woodley) and Richard (Sam Claflin), two young sailors who meet in Tahiti and agree to deliver a yacht to San Diego. Mid ocean, they sail directly into one of the worst hurricanes ever recorded. When Tami comes to after the storm, she finds the yacht in ruins and Richard badly injured and must find the strength and determination to save them both. Woodley gives a powerful performance and the cinematography is stunning.

Adrift is told with an inimitable sense of place and a rare attention to detail, both of which help to ensure that we never lose sight of the terror at hand … [Woodley is] eminently believable as a whip-smart, hyper-capable, iron-willed human being who still finds a way to doubt herself (“I don’t consider myself a sailor,” she demurs at one point). At its best, she wills Adrift into a moving story about a natural born wanderer who needs an anchor to know her own strength. David Ehrlich, Indiewire
