Born with a magical power she can’t control, Princess Elsa manages to trigger an eternal winter that freezes the entire land. Only her feisty sister Anna, aided and abetted by Olaf, an endearing snowman, can save the kingdom. This is an enchanting throwback to the classic Disney musicals of old, with memorable songs and gorgeous icy animation. A great big snowy pleasure.  (2013 USA 108 minutes)

When a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, Anna, a fearless optimist, teams up with extreme mountain man Kristoff and his sidekick reindeer Sven on an epic journey to find Anna’s sister Elsa, the Snow Queen, and put an end to her icy spell. Encountering mystical trolls, a funny snowman named Olaf, Everest-like extremes and magic at every turn, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom from destruction.

It’s as Frozen unfolds that the film kicks up a notch. The standout song, ‘Let It Go’, feels like Disney’s most inspired coming-out anthem yet… It’s also in the second act that we meet the irresistible comic relief, Olaf the Snowman… and encounter the danger essential to a satisfying Disney experience. So Frozen has both tunes and darkness. But most satisfying is a formula-defying finale that successfully subverts fairytale status quo. More of this sort of thing please, Disney.
