Ghost Stories 15

BUY TICKETS 8pm Friday 25 May

DIRECTOR Jeremy Dyson, Andy Nyman
CAST Andy Nyman, Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse, Alex Lawther

An entertainingly creepy adaptation of the much-loved stage play about a sceptical psychologist who tries to find rational explanations for three hauntings.

Adapted from the hit London stage play, the film follows Professor Phillip Goodman (Andy Nyman), psychologist and arch-sceptic, who has his rationality tested to the hilt when he stumbles across a long-lost file containing details of three terrifying ‘hauntings’. Shaken by what he reads, Goodman embarks on a mission to find rational explanations for these ghostly stories, risking his carefully maintained and rational world as he does so. Hang on to your popcorn, being scared has never been this much fun!
(2017 UK 98 mins)

Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson’s twisty-turny horror adaptation has lost none of its wit or clamminess on the way from the stage to the big screen. ‘The Exorcist’ meets ‘The League of Gentlemen’ in a triptych of horror tales that’s presided over with assurance and some seriously mordant wit by playwrights-turned-directors Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman. They’ve given their own stage play a cinematic reboot that’s both faithful and fresh, without sacrificing any of its macabre intimacy. ‘Ghost Stories’ is smart, surprising and recognisably British, right down to the peeling wallpaper, caravans and analogue tech of its sorta-bygone setting. Its world is weirdly familiar and yet alien. It’s also darn scary.  Phil de Semlyen, Time Out
