BUY TICKETS 3pm Thursday 25 October *Dementia-friendly screening*
DIRECTOR Ol Parker
CAST Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Cher, Meryl Streep
Sing along to all your favourite ABBA hits as you enjoy this summer delight of a film as Sophie finds out more about her mother’s young life and her three dads.
More chances to enjoy toe-tapping ABBA hits and glorious Greek sunshine. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is pregnant and wondering how she will cope. Struggling to run her mother’s villa, she finds out more about Donna’s past – how she started up the villa, met each of Sophie’s dads and coped as a single mum. But the present is full of surprises as Sophie’s grandmother (the one and only Cher) turns up uninvited.
(2018 UK / USA 114 mins)
This is a relaxed screening, open to everyone, but particularly welcoming to people living with dementia together with their family, friends and carers. Tickets £5, carers free.
With its all-star cast (Streep! Firth! Brosnan!), relentless kitsch, and all-killer ABBA soundtrack, Mamma Mia! might just be the The Godfather of so-camp-it’s-classic jukebox musicals. Kudos, then, to writer-director Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) for pitching the cleverly titled sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again as its The Godfather Part II — part sequel reuniting the original cast, part prequel recounting the summer that first brought Meryl Streep’s Donna to Kalokairi, Greece. In its best moments, Parker recaptures the original’s free-wheeling joy and energy … You’ll cackle at Christine Baranski’s crackling dialogue, cry when Meryl sings ‘My Love, My Life’, and when all is said and done you might even be tempted to go again.
