BUY TICKETS 8pm Thursday 27 December
DIRECTORS Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones
CAST Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin
A special quote-along screening of the timeless British comedy classic, presented by the Saffron Walden Young Film Programmers’ Group.
The first feature film from the legendary Monty Python group takes us on a medieval quest in England, circa 932 AD. Wise-cracking and sublimely irreverent, this comedy will bring laughter (and coconuts!) to our lives when we most need a dose of anarchic Python silliness. Endlessly quotable and quintessentially British.
Quote-along screening – feel free to dress up.
(1975 UK 87 mins)
Everything, from Marxist rhetoric to scientific observations to religious doctrine, takes a beating. Most comedies saturate the audience with gags and jokes in the hope that one-third to one-half of the material might be funny. But, in The Holy Grail, there’s hardly an attempt at humor that fails. That’s a rare claim for any movie to make, but, even when a viewer isn’t laughing aloud at this film, he or she will almost certainly appreciate the incisive intelligence evident in the Pythons’ approach. The quality of the humor – irreverent, smart, and challenging – is one of the things that differentiates Monty Python and the Holy Grail from so many other motion picture comedies.
