DIRECTOR David Frankel
CAST James Corden, Colm Meaney, Mackenzie Crook, Julie Walters

A heartwarming biopic of Paul Potts, a shy shop assistant by day and amateur opera singer by night, who shot to fame and into the nation’s hearts when he was chosen for Britain’s Got Talent.  Some of the facts have been changed for cinematic effect, but the film is touching and funny, with a winning performance from Corden as Potts (though Potts himself provides the singing voice!)

The remarkable and inspirational true story of Paul Potts, a shy, bullied shop assistant by day and an amateur opera singer by night. Paul became an instant YouTube phenomenon after being chosen by Simon Cowell for Britain’s Got Talent. Wowing audiences worldwide with his phenomenal voice, Paul went on to win Britain’s Got Talent and the hearts of millions.

James Corden has always been rather likeable, and in director David Frankel’s feel-good biopic One Chance he reaches new, lofty heights of likability as Paul Potts, the 2007 winner of Britain’s Got Talent. The movie is the first of its kind, really, the first narrative biopic about the new brand of celebrity, ordinary people chosen, cultivated, and catapulted into stardom by the people… One Chance avoids some of the pitfalls of the genre by having a funny if calculable script, a great supporting cast, and a very strong and engaging lead in Corden. If you need more out of your reality television star biopics, it would be better to go elsewhere.  Zeba Blay, Digital Spy
