DIRECTOR Bavo Defurne
CAST Isabelle Huppert, Kévin Azaïs, Johan Leysen, Anne Brionne

Isabelle Huppert stars in this delightful gem as a former Eurovision singer who is persuaded to come out of retirement by a young admirer.

Isabelle Huppert plays a former singer, once a finalist in a Eurovision-style contest, who has willfully drifted into the shadows and now works in a pâté factory. She is horrified when her co-worker, a talented young boxer, recognises her. He persuades her to come out of retirement and the two begin a passionate affair, although not everyone around them is supportive of their inter-generational relationship. A candy-coloured gem with delightful performances and a gorgeous original soundtrack by Pink Martini.
(2016 France 91 mins Subtitled)

It’s fun to see [Isabelle Huppert] in more lighthearted territory. It’s also refreshing to see her in a romance with a 21-year-old without anyone making a point of their age difference … even in the most hackneyed moments, Huppert makes us care and it’s fun to imagine her masking her contempt of fellow factory workers while dreaming of escape … It’s a film so light that it barely exists but Huppert makes it worth remembering. In her year of dominating the cinema, Souvenir is the sugary cherry on top.  Benjamin Lee, The Guardian
