Victoria & Abdul + Author Q&A

Author and journalist Shrabani Basu will visit Saffron Screen for a Q&A, hosted by fellow author Clare Mulley, after a screening of Victoria & Abdul on Wednesday 25th October.

Victoria and Abdul sees Dame Judi Dench reprise her role as Queen Victoria with a study of the monarch’s later years. Director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena) deftly weaves the tale of a remarkable friendship between Victoria and Abdul Karim, a young clerk who came from India to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. Despite palace interference, the two form a convivial bond as an ageing Victoria sees a changing world through new eyes.

Shranbani Basu wrote the book on which the film is based and is also author of The Spy Princess and The Curry and a journalist for The Telegraph.

Clare Mulley is an award-winning biographer and author of The Woman Who Saved the Children (2009), The Spy Who Loved (2013) and, most recently, The Women Who Flew for Hitler (2017).

Victoria and Abdul (12A) will be shown at Saffron Screen on Wednesday 25th October at 8pm (followed by a Q&A with Shrabani Basu) and also several times during that week. Tickets are available from www.saffronscreen.com, the Tourist Information Centre and box office.
