A Spooky Weekend to Scream About: Saffron Screen Takes Over the Town Hall

This October, the grand staircase and hall of Saffron Walden Town Hall will be transformed into a pop-up cinema for one unforgettable start to the spooky season. From a silent horror classic scored live to a family favourite with a rabbit-shaped curse, Saffron Screen has put together a programme for every kind of film fan — young, old, and everything in between.

Friday 9 October — Nosferatu, with live score

F.W. Murnau’s silent horror masterpiece — and this is no ordinary screening.

The film will be accompanied by a live viola score performed by Hugo Max, bringing Count Orlok’s shadow back to life note by note. It’s an atmospheric, one-night-only way to open our spooky weekend.

Cabaret seating, tickets limited.

Doors: 7:00 pm | Film: 7:30 pm

Saturday 10 October — Casper (1995)

Join Kat Harvey and her father as they move into Whipstaff Manor and discover it’s already occupied — by Casper, a shy, kind-hearted ghost, and his three mischievous uncles.

Introduce your kids to this beloved childhood favourite and rediscover the magic of Casper together.
