Featuring Ella Fitzgerald: Just One of Those Things (2019) and Joanna Eden (piano and vocals)

Tracing the story of Ella Fitzgerald’s life, this documentary film explores how her music became a soundtrack for a tumultuous century. From a 1934 talent contest at the Apollo theatre in Harlem, the film follows Ella’s extraordinary journey across 5 decades as she reflects the passions and troubles of the times in her music and her life.  Moving beyond conventional biopic, the film uses images and music to evoke the feel of those times bringing to life the context of Ella’s unique career, featuring interviews from Smokey Robinson, Jamie Cullum, Tony Bennett, Norma Miler.

After a short interval, the lights will dim and you’re invited to an intimate set of Ella classics from Saffron Walden star Joanna Eden.

Joanna has performed her jazz influenced original music all over the world and supported world-class artists including Jamie Cullum, the Buena Vista Social Club, Ronan Keating and the Blockheads. Sir Michael Parkinson instructed his Radio 2 listeners to “seek her out” and jazz legend Courtney Pine champions her recordings on his BBC Radio 2 show, while Jamie Cullum describes her as “Brilliant!”. Joanna, who released her fifth studio album ‘Truth Tree’ in 2019, has performed her ‘Embraceable Ella’ show at jazz venues all over the UK including Ronnie Scott’s Club and The Stables.
