DIRECTOR Carol Morley
CAST Patricia Clarkson, Toby Jones, Jacki Weaver, James Caan

Patricia Clarkson charismatically portrays a hard-worn detective in writer-director Carol Morley’s dreamy noir set in New Orleans.

Carol Morley (Dreams of a Life, The Falling) adapts Martin Amis’s satirical cop novel Night Train. Hard-worn former-alcoholic detective Hoolihan (the brilliant Patricia Clarkson) investigates the macabre murder of distinguished astrophysicist Jennifer Rockwell, whose life revolved around the study of black holes and whose death becomes itself a dark void. Less a whodunnit and more a study of the nature of human existence. Beautiful, mesmerising and memorable.
(2018 USA / UK 109 mins)

Is there any voice in modern British cinema more singular or distinctive than that of Carol Morley? … In her latest film, her most ambitious to date, she takes a neo-noir murder mystery and turns it into a quasi-metaphysical rumination upon life, the universe and everything. It’s a feat she undertakes with the gusto of one who is unafraid to fall, conjuring a trail of iridescent movie magic as she sets her sights on the stars.  Mark Kermode, The Observer
