Save Saffron Screen

Since 2005, Saffron Screen cinema has held special significance at the heart of our community, providing a gathering place that offers the magic of storytelling on the silver screen.

The impact of COVID-19 however, has severely affected the whole cinema industry, and we – like many cinemas – are still feeling the effects of prolonged closures and the rise of subscription platforms. Attendance at cinemas across the UK is down by up to 34% vs pre COVID numbers which has resulted in many closures, most notably and recently, our local Empire Cinema in Bishop Stortford.
Did you know that it costs us around £800 to put on every film, regardless of how many tickets we sell? And for every ticket we do sell, up to 65% of the price goes straight to the film distributors? With reduced cinema attendances, the financial strain around these numbers has become overwhelming.

The closure of Saffron Screen would leave a void in our cultural landscape, depriving both young and old of the joy, inspiration, and shared experiences that cinema has provided for generations. We are doing our utmost to avoid closure at all costs.

In order to prevent this irreplaceable loss, we are kindly requesting your assistance in the form of a donation to help us navigate this challenging period. A donation of any amount will directly contribute to the survival of our cherished cinema. It will enable us to cover operational costs, support staff members who have tirelessly served our community, and ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the magic of cinema in a safe and welcoming environment.

By acting now to raise £50,000 in the next twelve months, the cinema will remain open, and we will have the time to lay strong foundations into 2024 and beyond.
