On Sunday Saffron Screen hosted a screening of much-loved adventure comedy, The Princess Bride, in the ancient grounds of Saffron Walden Museum and Castle.

This autumn, independent cinema Saffron Screen will celebrate 10 Years of NT Live, the National Theatre’s broadcasting service with a special selection of old and new productions on screen.  


Saffron Screen to manage Royston Picture Palace

Saffron Screen will be taking over the management of Royston Picture Palace, after six years of successful management by the Royston First BID (Business Improvement District) company.

Uttlesford’s popular community cinema will work with the excellent and highly proficient team of volunteers at Royston, who will continue to deliver a varied programme of films supported by the management team at Saffron Screen for marketing, programming and technical services.


Former Moscow correspondent to host discussion after Meeting Gorbachev – This Sun 24 Nov

The latest documentary from Werner Herzog (Grizzly ManFitzcarraldo) traces the career of Mikhail Gorbachev, former General Secretary of the USSR. Combining insightful interviews, archive footage and playful moments, it celebrates Gorbachev’s remarkable achievements which included the reunification of Germany, negotiating the reduction of nuclear weapons with the US and the dissolution of the Soviet Union.

Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce offer an acting masterclass in this film about the meetings in Rome of Pope Benedict and the future Pope Francis.

Saffron Screen is one of just a few cinemas in East Anglia showing selected new Netflix films on the big screen.

We are working with Netflix and Altitude Film Distribution to show four Netflix films which it thinks merit being seen on the big screen, whether or not its customers have Netflix at home.
