An immensely enjoyable Icelandic comedy from Benedikt Erlingsson (Of Horses and Men) about an environmental activist.

Halla is a middle-aged choir director who leads a double life as an environmental activist in the Icelandic Highlands. Engaging in industrial sabotage to save her land, Halla’s cause is suddenly complicated when her application to adopt a child is accepted. This is a sparkling story from Benedikt Erlingsson (Of Horses and Men), unafraid to tackle its subject matter with humour, tension and emotion. And with the visual grandeur of Iceland on display, it’s easy to see why Halla fights so hard for it.
(2018 Iceland / France / Ukraine 100 mins Subtitled)

This immensely enjoyable, highly eccentric film is a crowdpleaser in the very best senses, being both inspiring and uplifting; at points it’s hard to resist the impulse to cheer. Alongside considerable frivolity, Woman at War packs a genuine emotional punch, while showing what some people are willing to sacrifice for the good of us all.  Emma Simmonds, The List
